Turbat University Academic Council Holds Eighteenth Meeting, Recommends Key Academic Reforms

The eighteenth meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Turbat (UoT) was held on April 16, 2026, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan.

Addressing the meeting, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the distinguished members and highlighted the vital role of the Academic Council in enhancing the university’s academic standards. He reaffirmed that his administration would ensure all academic and administrative matters are conducted strictly in accordance with the University Act and relevant statutes.
Responding to remarks raised by members, the Vice Chancellor directed the concerned department to ensure that all agenda items, proceedings, and minutes of previous meetings are completed comprehensively before being presented in subsequent meetings. He further emphasized that the minutes of each meeting must be circulated to all members within the stipulated timeframe for review and signature.

He also instructed that the curricula of all academic programs offered at UoT and its affiliated colleges be shared with relevant stakeholders to ensure academic alignment. The Council recommended that a formal request be submitted to the Higher Education Department, Government of Balochistan, seeking the provision of missing facilities and essential prerequisites required for college affiliation with the university. The Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of strengthening timely and efficient correspondence both within the university and with external institutions. The meeting also approved the inclusion of an AI course in all academic programs.
Earlier, Registrar Ganguzar Baloch presented the agenda items for discussion and approval. These included confirmation of the previous Academic Council meeting minutes, the academic calendar for 2026, the design of the undergraduate transcript, curriculum enhancement proposals, amendments to the policy for repeat examinations, revision of semester promotion rules from a GPA-based to a CGPA-based system, recommendations of Board of Faculty meetings, SOPs and regulations for establishing institutes within the university, award of degrees to MPhil/MS graduates, and admission of a PhD scholar. The Council deliberated in detail on each item and resolved them accordingly. The meeting also proposed that colleges located within the jurisdiction of the University of Gwadar and the University of Makran, Panjgur, be allowed to get affiliation with their respective universities.

The meeting was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamal Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Literature and Languages, Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch (TI), Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, and other Council members. Representatives from the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Baig, and the Government of Balochistan’s Higher Education Department, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, participated virtually.
